Questions & Answers

Deck and porch questions

How much does a new deck cost in Duluth?

It depends on the deck's size and height, whether you choose wood or composite decking, and how many stairs and railings it needs. We measure and talk through options at a free consultation, then give you a clear written estimate before any work starts, so you know the full price up front.

Should I choose wood or composite decking?

Wood usually costs less up front but needs regular staining or sealing to hold up through Northland winters. Composite costs more at the start but needs far less upkeep and resists rot and splintering. We build with both and will walk you through the trade-offs for your deck at the consultation.

Does my deck need a building permit?

Many deck projects do, depending on the deck's height, size and whether it attaches to the house. As a licensed Minnesota residential building contractor, we will tell you at the consultation whether your project needs a permit from your city or county and plan the schedule around it.
